Most assisted living homes are set up so that residents of the facility can have a better quality of life than they would experience if they were living in their traditional homes. An assisted living home allows the mature adult to live as independently as they are able to. This is the perfect setting for folks that need a little help with day to day living due to illness or injury. These adult care homes are focused on providing a great environment to live in with the focus being on the quality of life. And a great benefit of assisted living homes is that there are plenty of opportunities to participate in a slew of activities from card games to exercise.

The Philosophy

Many assisted living homes base their philosophy partly on exercise and activities. It is a strongly held belief when it comes to elder care that participation in exercise and activities enhances life and promotes longevity. The most immediate benefits are obvious. Better health from exercise and a sense of belonging from the activities. Improving or maintaining someone’s quality of life through residential senior care is a very real possibility. This is the number one goal of most quality assisted living providers.

Types of Activities

Most adult group homes have a full schedule of activities. They are geared to all levels of ability and are setup as group activities and individual activities. Participation is never mandatory it is always voluntary.

Most assisted living homes offer travel opportunities to the movies our out to lunch and destinations to the local zoo. There are plenty of opportunities for residents to interact with others and socialize, and maybe to even learn something new. Of course there are the conventional activities like organized card games and bingo. There is usually a great diversity of fun activities for anyone that chooses to participate. It is also important to note that not all residents participate in all activities. The resident can decide if they are comfortable with an activity and whether or not they want to participate. Participation is not mandatory but greatly encouraged by the activities directors in adult care homes.

Types of Exercises

Exercising is one of the main things we can all do to ward off the detrimental effects of aging. In adult group homes the exercise options usually range from stretching exercises to daily walking exercises.

It is never too late to begin an exercise regime. Simple steps to better health can really make a difference and care homes focus at least a part of the day on exercise.
